Foundation Learning & Skills for Life

Our course is designed to empower young adults with severe learning disabilities and complex needs, including PMLD and ASC. This course aims to encourage independence, enhance social skills, promote safety awareness, and encourage community engagement.

Through personalised learning plans aligned with EHCP goals, students will develop essential life skills across various domains:

  • Develop the ability to attend and participate in a wide range of activities
  • Engage in intentional, two-way communication
  • Develop practical skills for daily life
  • Improve self-advocacy skills in order to make choices
  • Improve social skills and develop relationships.

    The curriculum includes practical activities, vocational exploration, communication development, and physical fitness routines tailored to support holistic development.
  • Entry requirements

    None.

  • Who is the course for?

    Students aged 16-24 with High Needs, offering specialised support for those with profound learning difficulties, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, and severe medical conditions. This ensures a tailored educational journey for each individual.

  • Study methods

    Learners will have a programme based on their own individual starting points and needs which is tracked and monitored in a variety of ways including RARPA and using individual targets that are negotiated and set with learners, carers and therapists.

  • How is the course assessed?

    A sensory and developmental curriculum with a personalised approach, the curriculum focuses on developing communication, engagement and experiences. Curriculum is based on a variety of assessments and a young person’s EHCP outcomes.

    Students attend college four days per week.

  • Where Next – Further Studies

    This course can be up to a four-year programme depending on personal development and individual needs.

    Some learners will progress to other courses or into positive adult services and community provision.
