This course is for students who need to improve their maths skills in order to progress to GCSE and further study or to a career.

  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal academic entry requirements. Before you enrol, you will have an aptitude test with one of our tutors to help us decide what level is right for you and to assess your commitment to the course.

  • Who is the course for?

    We will assess your skills at the information and enrolment sessions to make sure the course is right for you.

    Things to bring with you:

    • Proof of residency (Passport /Home Office documents)
    • Exam certificates/results.

      The course may be free depending on your status and we will check this with you.
      Please note that enrolment could take approximately one hour.
  • Study methods

    You will need to bring the following:

    • A scientific calculator
    • Ruler
    • Compasses
    • A protractor
    • Pens and pencils
    • A4 folder and writing pad
    • Rubber.

      You will study non-calculator questions, plus a calculator paper.

      You will study all aspects of Mathematics.

      Classes will be face to face, in the classroom, on Thursday evenings 17:00 - 19:00.
  • How is the course assessed?

    You will be regularly assessed during your course and receive feedback to help you develop the skills required for the external exams.

    Functional Skills Maths is assessed in three parts:

    • Numbers
    • Fractions
    • Percentages.

    Successful candidates will achieve a nationally recognised qualification and the course will support students to progress to further study or a career.
