Functional Skills Maths at Level 1. The syllabus content can be found on the Edexcel website (www.edexcel.org.uk)

  • Entry requirements

    Grade D/Grade 3 in GCSE Maths or Pass in Functional skills Maths at Level 1 are useful. You will be assessed on some basic maths concepts. The following link gives you the list of topics to revise.
    To successfully receive a course offer, you will need to pass the initial assessment. After passing the initial assessment, you will be offered a place in the introductory period of the course (the first 6 weeks starting in September) during which time you will be assessed again to secure a permanent place on the course.
    Questions in the initial assessment which will take place during enrolment will be from the following topics. All questions are at Foundation level (Grade 1/2/3).

    Probability and statistics

  • Who is the course for?

    This course is for adult students (19+) who need to improve their maths skills in order to progress to GCSE and further study or to a career.

  • Study methods

    Students are taught as a group for three hours per week. They should also do a substantial amount of homework. Lessons are on Tuesday between 6pm and 9pm.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Exams will take place in March, May, June and July. You have opportunity to pass the exam in one of these sessions.

    You will need a scientific calculator, a ruler, compasses, a protractor, pens and pencils.
    No
    A4 folder and writing pad, pen, pencil, rubber, ruler and calculator.
