You will enhance your skills for life and further study through a wide range of tasks. These include:
• Reading and analysing a wide range of texts.
• Improving grammar, punctuation and spelling.
• Writing formal letters, emails, reports and articles including texts that intend to inform, persuade, instruct and describe these to readers.
• Writing informal letters and emails.
• Discussing topics including participating in formal and informal meetings

Entry requirements
You should have an interest in the subject area you are applying for. There are no formal entry requirements but we will assess your level of English and maths to make sure you are working at Entry Level 3 or above. This is to ensure you are able to meet the course requirements.

Who is the course for?
The course is ideal if you wish to get ahead and improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and, gain a qualification to evidence your ability.
As part of the course, you will learn to analyse and understand the meaning and purpose of texts. You will also learn to write pieces of writing while at the same time developing your grammar, punctuation and spelling. You will be able to also develop your speaking skills for real-life situations.
Achieving this qualification will increase your confidence and motivation. The skills you gain will be invaluable in the workplace or in any further learning.
We will assess your skills at the information and enrolment sessions to make sure the course is right for you.

How is the course assessed?
You will be regularly assessed during your course and receive feedback to help you develop the skills required for the external exams.
Functional Skills English is assessed in three parts: speaking and listening, reading and writing. Successful candidates will achieve a nationally recognised qualification. -
