If you wish to study STEM subjects and intend to progress to higher education, this course is for you. A Level subjects have been reformed as part of the national programme of changes to A Levels and hence you will take the new two-year linear A Levels. You will also sit the new free-standing AS exams at the end of your first year.
STEM Subjects include:
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Mathematics

  • Entry requirements

6 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) although some subjects may require grade 9-6 (grade A- B). If you haven’t taken traditional qualifications, or have not studied in the UK, we may be able to offer you a place based on performance in an entry test. A reference may be required.

  • Who is the course for?

This programme is suitable for students who wish to study STEM subjects and intend to progress onto A2 Levels and into higher education. Learners who study STEM subjects can progress into a wide range of career paths such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering and Biomedical Science.

  • Study methods

All students will study for AS Levels in the first year of their A Level course. Students normally take three subjects.

  • How is the course assessed?

The AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Levels are composed of exams which are taken in May/June. To complete a full A Level, a further year of study is required, and the new reformed qualifications are assessed through terminal exams, covering work from both years, taken in May/June.

  • Where Next – Job Opportunities

Achieving good grades at A Level improves your chances of obtaining better training, apprenticeships and job prospects.

  • Where Next – Further Studies

Depending on the grades achieved, students can progress onto a University degree or a Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma/Level 5 HND Diploma course at a higher education institute.
