The syllabus covered for each of the sciences consists of a subject core and extension material. The Biology GCSE covers topics including Genetics, Cells, Environmental Studies, Human Behaviour and Biotechnology. The Chemistry GCSE covers topics including Atomic Structure, Chemical Reactions, Chemical Synthesis and Modern Applications. The Physics GCSE covers topics including Space Exploration, Electricity, Mechanics, Radioactivity and Medical Physics. Students will also study GCSE English and Maths as part of the Package course.

- have studied Maths and sciences before
- successfully pass an entry test measuring their knowledge of these subjects

Who is the course for?
This one year intensive course covers GCSE English and Maths plus the three separate sciences: GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. This is an interesting, enjoyable yet demanding course that enables students to improve upon their previous GCSE grades. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of scientific theory and its applications alongside developing their practical skills.

How is the course assessed?
The syllabus consists of a subject core, additional and extension material. GCSE assessment will be linear in structure, so that examinations are taken at the end of the course.

You should expect to provide yourself with all standard stationary, writing materials and folders. You will also need a scientific calculator.
You may wish to purchase your own course books. These typically amount to approximately £10. A contrinbution is expected towards optional trips and visits.

Where Next – Further Studies
The GCSE Science programme allows students to progress onto Level 3 courses. It provides the basis for AS/A2 Biology, Chemistry and Physics or BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Applied Sciences.
