The core content will cover:
Content focused on Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Biology. It will also look at working within the Science sector.
Occupational Specialism Outcomes (Laboratory Sciences):
• Perform a range of appropriate scientific techniques to collect experimental data in a laboratory setting, complying with regulations and requirements
• Plan, review, implement and suggest improvements to scientific tasks relevant to a laboratory setting
• Identify and resolve issues with scientific equipment or data errors

Entry requirements
The T level is available for students aged 16-18 (on the 1st September 2021) or if you have an ECHP be aged 16-22. We are looking for students with at least 5 GCSEs including English and Maths and an interest in working in the Scientific field, especially within a laboratory. No specific technical skills are required.

Who is the course for?
Students who have completed GCSE’s and are looking for the next step specialising in Science. This course prepares students for work within a lab by teaching practical and theoretical skills throughout the two years of the course. At the end, students will complete a 315-hour industry placement within a laboratory and be able to apply their academic skills to a real world setting.

Study methods
Students will prepare for core exams and projects in their first year and cover core scientific principles and further scientific principles. The second year will be more practical and apply this knowledge in the classroom and in the work place.

How is the course assessed?
The course will be marked throughout both years through a mixture of exams, projects and assignments.
At the end of the first year there will then be two exams, testing the students’ knowledge and learning. - More information

You can start working as a laboratory technician, and some students are expected to gain employment from their placements. Others may start a degree (the T-Level is worth up to 168 UCAS points - but please check with your chosen University that they accept the T Level) or an apprenticeship at Level 4.
