ICT students from Harrow College have benefited from receiving first hand feedback from a digital expert as part of a programme to engage students with real life business professionals.
On the 28th of January 2019, Level 3 ICT students from Harrow College were honoured to welcome Mr Mohammed Gbadamosi to the college. As well as having astute digital knowledge, Mohammed is a social care professional and founder of Tech for Care, a company supporting and promoting the digital transition of the care sector. Mohammed is also a visiting lecturer in Health and Social Care at Newman University in Birmingham.
The session at Harrow College was made possible by the College working together with Working Knowledge who are social enterprise education specialists. Working Knowledge is passionate about creating chances for young people to open doors into employment and changing employer's perceptions of the value of young people in industry.
Mohammed, together with Phil Walsh, Facilitator and Business Development Manager from Working Knowledge provided valuable feedback to each of the students who presented in small groups. A key topic highlighted during the session was the importance researching. One example was having the awareness of the latest hardware components and software updates in line with current industry standards – this knowledge would give the students current projects greater authority and attention. The attentive students were also encouraged to consider Cloud Share and Google Drive as creative and efficient ways of doing business.
Speaking at the session, we asked Mohammed why is it important for business people to volunteer their time to help young people understand business? He said:
“When they leave college the expectation is that they are ready to work. We need to give them the knowledge to be ready to face working life. They need to know what will be required of them. They also need to understand what will make them stand out in a competitive job market.”
We asked Mohammed what he enjoyed most about his time with the Harrow College students. He said:
“It has given me a fulfilment that I have contributed to the preparation of the next generation of employees. It’s a good opportunity for young people to step up and be the best that we can be, and we saw some of that today.”
