Students at Harrow College had the opportunity to mingle with some of the largest national employers’ todays at a speed networking event as part of National Careers Week.

The young learners studying Science, Business, IT and Humanities were first welcomed to the session by careers staff from the college before being introduced to the employers – each of whom had specifically taken time out of their day to meet the Harrow College students.

Professionals from a breadth of organisations were presented including Google, BT, Home Office, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Saatchi & Saatchi, Morgan Stanley Investment Management, IBM, Carlyle Group, NHS, Crown Prosecution Service, Westminster City Council, BAE Applied Intelligence and many more.

One of the highlights of the day was a speed networking session, where students had 10 minutes per professional to ask questions, learn more about their profession and attain as much career advice as possible. As the 10 minute buzzer rang, the professionals rotated from group to group, taking quick-fire questions from the eager students.

Reflecting on the event, Nikki Flemming from Google UK said “this is such a great initiative. I’d have loved this opportunity when I was their age. It’s great to see so much enthusiasm and drive from the students at Harrow College and I wish them all the best”.

Kieran Tyler from BT Plc was also impressed by the passion shown by the students and recalled his own experiences as a young learner. He said “I was inspired towards my career choice by a similar event when I was their age so it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to give back”.

An Engineering student who attended the event was really impressed by what he learnt from the day. He said “today has been very insightful and has opened my mind to a number of opportunities I hadn’t previously considered. I was given some specific work experience advise relating to my course which I’ll definitely be pursuing”.

Today’s event is part of a series of career related activities taking places across Harrow College to mark National Careers Week.
