Harrow College, Level 2 Diploma in Business students were challenged to shed their ‘student approach’ and focus on preparing themselves for the real world. This was part of the Employer Challenge event with Business Volunteers from Buckingham Futures- a privately owned company which specialises in the recruitment of Environmental Health and Health & Safety professionals nationwide.
Students were divided into groups and asked to make a presentation on Interview preparation, technique and etiquette. Over 50 students put their minds together and came up with a variety of ideas on the said topic. Some groups presented their concepts with videos on what not to do in an interview, others were more straightforward with the dos and don’ts and some performed role plays as part their presentations.
Each presentation was followed with detailed feedback offered by business volunteers, Ketan Dattani, Barry Gilbert, Diana Carter and Katie Thomas regarding the content of the presentations and the students’ presentation skills. They also provided an insight into the interviewing process, tips and techniques.
Mohammed Benyahia, level 2 student said, “Working on these presentations has boosted my confidence in presenting to an audience and I’ve learnt more about how to give a good interview in the process”.
Another student, Mauro Lopes said, “Working with employers helps us to learn from their experience and gives us an insight into how the industry works. These presentations help in boosting our confidence and becoming better team workers.”
