The annual Harrow College Student Awards ceremony has taken place to celebrate the academic achievements of students.
Over 100 students attended the awards ceremony at the Kadwa Patidar Centre in Kenton, on Tuesday 26 June 2018. During the event students from the across the college celebrated their achievements from the 2017/18 academic year. Principal and Governor Awards were also presented to students for their courage, commitment and dedication.
A number of influential Keynote speakers were in attendance and inspired the audience with their stories. The first speaker was Jack Parsons, a 24 year old British entrepreneur, youth influencer, personality and public speaker and currently CEO of the Big Youth Group. In 2017, he was recognised as ‘Young Digital Leader of the Year’, ‘Most Connected Young Entrepreneur’, and named in ‘The 100 Faces of a Vibrant Economy’.
Also speaking at the event was Lee McQueen who was named as Lord Sugar's Apprentice in 2008 and is now the Founding Director of the Raw Talent Academy which aims to provide employability skills and work opportunities to young people. The academy training course includes topics such as goal-setting, motivation and the power of knowledge. This year 13 students from Harrow College collected certificates after completing the Raw Talent course.
Guests including proud parents, tutors, governors and community members were treated to entertainment from former Harrow College student and singer/producer Bobby Mill who performed two of his own songs live. HC Radio, Harrow Colleges own radio station, also entertained the audience with a special show pre-recorded by student DJ’s. An impressive short video made by media students was also shown.
The awards were supported by local businesses who were keen to give their backing to specific subject areas. The first was JD Booster who sponsored the ‘Most Promising Talent in Maths’ award. JD Booster is a leading provider of teaching supplements for 11-14 year olds (www.jdbooster.com). Another supporting business was Protocol who gave their backing to the ‘Outstanding Effort in Teacher Education’ award. Protocol is a leading lecturer and assessor recruitment agency in the Further Education (FE) sector (www.protocol.co.uk).
