Harrow College are delighted to announce Pat Carvalho as their new Principal and Chief Executive. Pat Carvalho, who has held the post of Vice Principal for the past 6 years, will assume her new post on 19 August 2015.
The announcement comes following the news of current Principal and Chief Executive Tony Medhurst leaving the role after over 7 years in charge of the FE College.
Pat Carvalho has played a pivotal role in a number of successes at the college including improving students' achievements, ensuring that the vast majority of level 3 students go on to university and the continuing positive contribution to the local economy through its work with employers who have taken on apprenticeships and provided highly successful training for the unemployed leading to work.
In April 2013, following a full inspection by Ofsted, Harrow College achieved its first "Good" rating – the second highest possible rating standard. A quote from the report read "The welcoming and inclusive atmosphere helps all learners reach their full potential."
More recently, Harrow College has become the first tenant of Arc House – a venture led by Harrow Council and funded by the Greater London Authority. Serving Harrow town centre and the wider area, both Arc House and the redesigned Lowland's Park create a vibrant and engaging open space set to become a hub for performance and cultural celebration in the Borough.
The future looks set to continue bearing the fruits of lots of hard work and commitment at Harrow College, much of which Pat Carvalho has been instrumental in delivering. Two land mark buildings are set to open in September 2015 which will further enhance the Harrow College offering. A new Enterprise Centre at the Harrow-on-the-Hill site will bring employers and students closer together with career ambitions at the core of curriculum activity. A new building for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities at the Harrow Weald campus will offer students better facilities to progress in their education.
Speaking of the new appointment, Nick Davies, Chair of Governors at Harrow College said "The board are very pleased to have secured the appointment of Pat Carvalho. We are all looking forward to working with her in further developing our learners' experience. Her wealth of knowledge and experience of Harrow College and the sector will be a valuable asset. This will ensure the College continues to build upon its successes and achievements for the future.
Pat Carvalho, herself a local resident in Harrow, spoke about her new role and her ambition to push the college even further forward. She said "I am delighted to be able to take the College forward over the coming years to ensure we provide high quality education and training that really supports local young people and adults to achieve their full potential as well as contribute positively to the local economy and wider community."
From all of us at Harrow College, we welcome Pat as the Principal and Chief Executive Officer and we thank Tony for all his hard work and dedication over the years. We wish you both the best of luck!
