Business and Economics students from Harrow College have visited Bank of America Merrill Lynch - one of the world’s largest banking groups.
As well as getting a valuable insight into the world of work and what it entails, the students also left with a much better understanding of what an international bank does and the career opportunities available.
‘Inspiring the Future’ is a charity which helps to bring employers and educational establishments together. Their biggest sponsor is Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the massive prestigious American finance power house. Inspiring the Future invited Harrow College students to the Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s offices, in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral, to see what they do.
The day began with the students enjoying a fun trading game. The aim of the game was to trade various commodities across the room. The students had a lot of fun playing the game which got them thinking about the sort of things the bank does in just one of its many departments.
Next the students got to meet employees from various departments in a speed-date style quick fire question and answer session. Students sat at tables in small groups. They were joined by various employees from the many departments of the bank including the trading departments, IT, procurement and syndicated loans to name but a few. This particular format of meeting was perfect for meeting as many different employees as possible. The students had the opportunity to ask many questions as they could in 5 minutes before the employees moved to a different table where the process was repeated. Many questions were asked and answered during this insightful session.
The visit was a great success and the students enjoyed a wonderful experience.
