An AS Level student from Harrow College has been accepted into a highly regarded Summer School at the prestigious Eton College.
Rui Tao, 17, will attend the ten-day Summer School designed for pupils at the end of their first year of college and contemplating entry to University. Applicants should have the intention of going to a British university and be of the calibre of those applying for admission to Oxford or Cambridge.
As far as possible the course supplements normal school work and avoids the topics covered during A-level teaching. The aim is to provide an intensive and exciting programme to enrich the intellectual experience of those participating and to give them the opportunity to exchange ideas with able students with similar interests from other schools. Whilst at the Summer School, Rui will be studying a combined course of Chemistry and Maths, as well as a series of extra-curricular activities.
Parvaneh Alinaghian teaches Rui Maths AS level at Harrow College. She commented:
"This is an ideal course for Rui as she will be stretched intellectually. The opportunity to extend her studies by exploring topics outside the A-level syllabus will be of great benefit to her."
A delighted Rui, who is currently studying AS Levels in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Psychology, has ambitions of doing a degree in Chemistry at Oxford University after she completes her course at Harrow College. Speaking about the Summer School which takes place from 4-14 July 2017, Rui said:
“I feel excited and a little nervous. This will be a challenge for me but also an experience I’m really looking forward to".
Rui is following in the footsteps of Viktoria Noel, a former Harrow College student, who attended the same course in 2015. Viktoria is now studying Physics at Oxford University.
