Jay Valand, Business Lecturer at Harrow College, will be volunteering in Tanzania between 21st June and August 28th over the summer period with Raleigh International.
Valand will be helping young local villagers to set up their own businesses, feel empowered and provide the foundations for sustainable development in their community.
To volunteer and support this great cause, Valand needs to raise £800 as soon as possible. With tremendous support from staff members at the college he has already raised £525 but more is still needed for him to be able to volunteer in Tanzania.
To show his dedication and determination to the project, he has been living on a budget of £1 a day (below the poverty line) for food and transport for a week and will be shaving his hair and waxing all the hair off his legs this weekend.
You can show your support to this great cause by sponsoring him at http://www.justgiving.com/jayvalandicse.
If £650 is raised the challenge, he will be to run 10km. If the £800 target is reached he has dedicated himself to cycling from London to Brighton.
Raleigh International is dedicated to sustainable development and improving skills for people in developing countries. All volunteers are trained and supported to work alongside communities living in poverty. They work in rural areas to improve access to safe water and sanitation, manage natural resources in a sustainable way and protect vulnerable environments.
