Students from the Year 2 Level 3 Extended Diploma in Architecture, Interior & Product Design Course were tasked with an exciting brief for a live project from the William Heath Robinson Trust.Illustration by W. Heath Robinson
The project required them to design and create a piece of festive decoration based on the work of William Heath Robinson, a popular London cartoonist who lived in Pinner during WW1 and the interwar years. Robinson is best known for poking fun at the modern age's blind faith in machinery through his cartoons.
The name "Heath Robinson" became part of common parlance in the UK for comlex inventions that achieved absurdly simple results.
The students sculptural decorations are lit up and festively displayed on West House, the building adjacent to the Heath Robinson Museum. The project aims to build Computer aided design skills in a creative and practical way, keeping industry and client briefs in focus.
