A group of career driven students from Harrow College have continued on their journey of discovery with the Raw Talent Employability Academy. As part of their programme of activities spread across the academic year, the group visited the head offices of Capita IT Resourcing to gain a unique first-hand insight into the word of work.

Raw Talent's Employability Academy aims to give students an understanding of business through a hands-on programme, extracurricular to the students College studies. Activities include giving the selected learners the opportunity to visit a large corporation, visit the different areas of a live business environment and receive coaching from business experts on specific employability skills.

During their most recent outing, the group were taken to Capita head office based in Maidenhead. For many, this was their first visit to a major corporate organisation. Dressed in their smart suits and with notebooks in hand, the student met various directors, team leaders and recruiters from Capita, Network Rail, Ministry of Defense and other government bodies. They listened intently as the speakers shared their career stories and offered advice.

The group later moved on to the offices of Raw Talent themselves, based in Oxford. They met staff members from sales, recruitment, marketing, operations, finance and HR and discovered how different a big corporate like Capita is compared to a small business like Raw Talent.

Students have now completed 6 of 8 days of the employability academy. The remaining days activities include ‘Beat the Boardroom’ (a BBC Apprentice style day where two teams go head-to-head) and also presenting details of their personal development through the Raw Talent process.

Raw Talent Employability Academy is the brainchild of BBC Apprentice Winner, Lee McQueen. Lee has successfully been working with Harrow College for over 5 years as his academy grows from strength to strength. Lee commented:

“It is incredible to see the difference in the students as the Employability Academy progresses. They have all grown in confidence, knowledge and self-motivation. The best part of running this programme with Harrow College is seeing the young students develop. I’m impressed by the life goals and plans they have now put in place and I’m looking forward to recognising their achievements at the end of the academic year”.
