Business students from Harrow College have delivered an Expo event focussing on the impact that online competition is having on high street stores.
This timely Expo was based upon the recent problems that Debenhams and other High Street stores have been facing due to online competition and other market factors. 2018 has been a turbulent time for the high street with a number of well know stores such as Mothercare, Maplin, Toys R Us and Poundland all facing financial problems. The students were tasked with identifying the main causes of these problems and the impact they are having on company's stakeholders. Finally, students put forward a number of suggestions which they think could help the struggling company’s.
Teams of students presented their findings during a special event in front of their peers as well as local business Buckingham Futures where company Director Ketan Dettani and some of his employees were invited to judge the teams and then make a trophy presentation later in the day.
Robyn Green, Business Lecturer at Harrow College said:
"It was inspiring to see the amount of research and analysis the students had all undertaken, added with the professionalism they exhibited on the day. The guest judges from Buckingham Futures were equally impressed with the amount of time and effort that the students had clearly invested into both the presentations and the event itself, and gave invaluable feedback and comments to the students. An informative and fun day was had by all."
