Media students from Harrow College have visited the BBC to experience a live media environment. The Level 2 and Level 3 students spent time at Broadcast House in London’s Oxford Circus where they participated in a live studio audience of ‘The One Show’ hosted by Matt Baker & Alex Jones (broadcast live from Mon-Fri on BBC1 at 7pm).
As well as participating on the show’s live audience panel, the students also got to see how a live television show is setup and broadcasted. They experienced first-hand the work and effort which goes into planning, preparing and running a professional current affairs programme.
This amazing opportunity was made possible by former Harrow College media student and BBC employee Jamaal Muhammed who invited the Harrow College Media department. Jamaal studied BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma during his time at Harrow College and later progressed onto a careers apprenticeship programme with Sky before landing an Audience Researcher position with the BBC. As well as giving students a taste of employment in the media sector, Jamaal also gave students an exclusive tour of the BBC’s headquarters where they visited studios, news rooms and the BBC Radio 1Xtra radio station.
The students also rubbed shoulders with a few celebrities during the tour including Brendan Gleeson who starred of Braveheart, Alastor Moody who starred in the Harry Potter films, singer Christine McVie from the group Fleetwood Mac, comedian/actor Jon Thomson, singer/songwriter Alison Moyet & musician George Ezra.
