This is a practical course which aims to develop students skills, knowledge and ability to create their own pottery using a variety of making and decorating techniques: clay preparation and ceramic glossary of terms, handbuilding techniques - pinching, coiling, slab-building, press-moulding and slip casting, various decorating and glazing techniques, burnishing and sawdust/smoke firing. Students will learn safe studio practice, which demonstrates consideration towards others.
As part of your course and where the opportunity occurs literacy/numeracy together with speaking and listening skills will be developed.

Who is the course for?
This course is for beginners through to more experienced pottery students. A workshop approach is adopted with students of varying abilities working on projects which progresses their technical competence and creative sensibilities. Individual and small group support will be a feature of this course.

Although equipment, tools and materials are provided by the College students will usually have some of their own tools; advice will be given on inexpensive tools if students wish to buy their own. Students may also wish to bring their own apron.
