English - ESOL

You will study a certificate in childcare and Functional Skills in English, Maths and IT, as well as a Personal Development Unit and Exploring Employability Skills Award.

  • Entry requirements

    No formal qualifications required. Students' level of English as well as interest and suitability for the programme will be determined by a written test and an interview at enrolment.

  • Who is the course for?

    Learners who wish to improve their written and spoken English, Maths and IT and are interested in further education or employment. The course is for both young and adult students. Students should have an interest in working in Childcare.

  • Study methods

    A variety of methods will be used including group work, pair work, role play, written assessments, listening and speaking tasks, use of course book material and reading exercises.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Students will be continually assessed throughout their course, during class hours. Students will be continually assessed during class hours. There will be a test at the end of each business unit to be marked internally and moderated externally. Students will work towards an entry level certificate in Business. All students are expected to study for and to take exams in English, maths and ICT. They will also be required to develop a portfolio of work for their vocational certificate.

    Students will be expected to have A4 lined paper, pens and pencils, a ring binder as well as a dictionary. A USB stick is useful for saving assignment work.

    Foundation Entry level 3 certificate in Caring for Children and Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care.
