All students will develop a general understanding of health and science:
working within the health and science sector
health, safety and environmental regulations
managing information and data
principles of good scientific and clinical practice
core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules, genetics, microbiology and immunology
They will also learn about topics specific to health, including:
understanding the healthcare sector
providing person-centred care
supporting health and wellbeing
further knowledge of both human anatomy and physiology and of diseases and disorders
infection prevention and control

Entry requirements
5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English & maths or a relevant Level 2
qualification at merit or above. Students with 4 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and maths should apply and will be interviewed.
Candidates require a DBS check. -
Who is the course for?
This qualification is suitable for post-16 students looking to develop both knowledge and practical skills in the health sector.
This technical qualification will support students onto a range of progression routes including employment, higher education and higher apprenticeships. -
Study methods
Through a mixture of lectures, discussions, group and pair work, practical demonstrations, role play and work experience. You will also be expected to undertake a significant amount of independent study outside of timetabled classes. You will also attend 9 weeks (45 days) minimum working with an employer on an industry placement.

How is the course assessed?
Core component: 2 written examinations employer-set project (ESP) In order to achieve a grade for Core Component, students must have results for both sub-components (the core (written) examination and the employer-set project). Occupational Specialism: a case study assessment 2 practical assessments and - a professional discussion.
