This course provides learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0–5 years.
It also provides introductory knowledge of professional practice to support wider understanding of the early years practitioner route and optional units that provide learners with transferable employability skills.

Entry requirements
3 x GCSEs grade 3 or above preferably including both English and Maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification. Candidates require an enhanced DBS check.

Who is the course for?
This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years.

Class based discussions, presentations, group work, online resources, and independent study.

How is the course assessed?
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using non–mandatory assessment tasks provided for tutors’ convenience in this specification. Skills based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.

This qualification requires learners to complete 250 hours mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification before certification.

Where Next – Job Opportunities
This counts towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner within the Early Years Workforce. You can work under supervision in a range of roles including Nursery Practitioner, Classroom Assistant and Pre-School Practitioner.
