Hairdressing

  • Stage 1 course: Students will be able to develop their skills and knowledge in using a range of basic cutting techniques to create a variety of styles on wet and dry hair of various lengths. Introduction to basic cutting skills with tuition heads, handling of scissors, Health and Safety, hair scalp conditions, recognising various face shapes and other techniques for conducting consultations with clients, basic blow-drying skills.

  • Stage 2 course: You will learn a range of basic cutting techniques to create a variety of layered and textures styles on wet and dry hair and blow drying skills, practise skills on tuition heads, client care, Health and Safety.
    As part of your course and where the opportunity occurs literacy/numeracy together with speaking and listening skills will be developed.
  • Entry requirements
    • Stage 1 course: Students on the beginner’s course must be able to write and speak English and have a commitment to learn.

    • Stage 2 course: Students should have completed the introductory course stage 1.
  • Who is the course for?
    • Stage 1 course: This is a programme for beginners; anyone interested in cutting and styling hair and developing their skills in hairdressing.

    • Stage 2 course: This is a progression course for anyone interested in cutting and blow drying and for learners who have some knowledge and basic experience in hairdressing.
  • Study methods
    • Stage 1 course: Through practical demonstrations from tutor, practical workshops, theory is taught by various student centred methods.

    • Stage 2 course: Practical demonstrations from tutors, theory is taught by various student centred methods. Practising on hairdressing blocks and clients.
  • How is the course assessed?

    You will be observed carrying out practical activities and be questioned as well as your written work being assessed.

  • More information

    Please bring a pen, notebook and enrolment paperwork. Students are required to wear black trousers/skirt with a plain black/white top and black comfortable shoes. No clogs or open toed shoes can be worn due to Health and Safety requirements. Students will also need to purchase a kit, costing approximately £100.00.
    Kit for the Stage 2 course will cost approximately £120.
