This course is designed to develop practical skills and associated science and theory for client consultations, shampoo and conditioning, basic cutting, styling and colouring, as well as health and safety and customer care.
Units include:
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
- Cut women's hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- Cut men’s hair
- Perm and neutralise hair
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector.

Entry requirements
4 x GCSEs grade 3 (grade D) or above preferably including both English and Maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Who is the course for?
This qualification is for those interested in a career in hairdressing.
If you pursue a diploma in hairdressing, you'll learn the skills to succeed in your area - for example, women's hairdressing, men's hairdressing or colouring.
The diploma covers a wide range of skills from shampooing, styling and dressing to cutting in women's and men's hair. You learn through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments. You'll have access to a realistic hairdressing environment where you'll practise and demonstrate your skills.
You will be assessed by your tutors by using assignments, practical hairdressing tasks and online tests. To achieve the diploma, you will complete a number of core and optional units. -
