Level 2 and 3 plumbing & heating students from colleges nationwide were competing in a live practical installation for the chance to win the HIP Learner of the year award. Representing Harrow College were Level 2 plumbing student, Zakariya Abdirahman, who is deaf and a BSL user, and Level 3 plumbing student, Mustafa Shehu.
For the competition, both students were given a technical drawing of a boiler, shower, radiator and water heater and had to fit all the components and the pipework to industry standards within 6 hours. Zakariya and Mustafa had to demonstrate strong pipe bending, and soldering skills in this time.
The competition was judged by representatives from the CIPHE, Technical manager of the Institute of Plumbing, along with judges from the Water Regulations and Baxi Boilers. The Department at Harrow College are extremely proud of all the hard work and commitment that both students have shown to represent the college to an outstanding level!
